Often they inject a dye as well to "light up" the blood vessels and you drink a dye as well to delineate the GI tract. Then you go through the Cat scanner which takes a type of Xray picture in slices through out most of the body (neck to pelvis usually). These are not usually covered by insurance and are performed at private scan clinics and run about $3000.00 plus (or minus a little). They look for anything "not typical" and then refer you back to your doc for any followup. Not everything shows up however--there are false positives and false negatives.

it is basically a cat scan or MRI of the entire body, in search of abnormal growths, called neoplasms, dead organ tissue, or any sign of infection. If anything looks suspicious, a biopsy follows, and bloodwork confirms the results.
