Medical question....?!

Question: My husband has a lump right above his ankle. It is pretty big. IT almost looks as though he has two ankles. Anyway, last night at work, he had to ride a bicycle around the plant he works at and bumped it. Then a short while later it started burning and his ankle swole up pretty bad. Do you think this is a cyst that ruptured?

It was probably what they term a Ganglion! My Mother had a large one on the back of her hand when she was Nursing and it was painful if hit. Anyway, one day a PT who was blind arrived to see to the Patients and unbeknown to Mother grabbed her hand, next she knew the cyst was gone? However, the hand was swollen. Glad to report, the swelling went down within a few days. We think the PT broke the cyst and the fluid spread out under the skin, around the back of the hand giving that swollen look. However, that swollen look went away. Good Luck

Your husband needs to see a doctor ASAP if the lump is really that big. It could be a bone cyst although they are usually within the bone rather than on it. Is his foot swollen too? Could be gout. Was the lump painful before he hit it? I'd definitely get it looked at. Good luck.

Push him until he sees the right doc (preferrably an ortho) and gets a good diagnostic workup. Xrays are a must ASAP.
And DO NOT blame yourself. He is a big boy and is responsible for his own health.
