Ear Popping?!

Question: I have a cold and every time i blow my nose my ear pops. I don't think it's getting infection because it had sharp pain yseterday so i went to the doctor and he said it was fine, and he prescribed me an antiobiotic which i've been taking to make sure i don't get an infection.

What can i do to stop it-i've taken congestion medicine and i can't do anything that involves me nose because it is stuffed right now.

HELP!

-thanks-

I concur with your doctor, it's normal. There is an air passage in your ear that drains out in the very top of your mouth. By blowing really hard, you're increasing the air pressure, blowing it back into the ears, causing the ears to pop. I recommend that you blow your nose lightly instead of hard, that way, you can reduce pressure and also reduce the risk of infecting your ears.

The most common cause of ear pain is a middle-ear infection, also known as otitis media. Young children between three months and three years are often plagued by this infection, though it can appear at any age.
