Slammed my finger in a door?!

Question: Now it is black and purple under the nail and I'm pretty sure the nail will eventually fall off. It's been two days but it still swells a little, I keep icing it but I'm not sure what else to do. I read about drilling a hole in the nail to get rid of the pressure but Webmd says only to do that if it is painful, which it doesn't really hurt unless I hit it against something accidentally.

Just keep the ice on. the nail doesn't always fall off either. If it does become painful or there is any yellow or green drainage then see a doc. Otherwise you are doing all you can do. Maybe a finger splint will help you from hitting it on things...they are padded on the inside and just might help keep that nail on.

leave it be

Ya, just let it go. It hurts like anything slammed in a door would. Eventually you will lose the nail, but just find ways to take care of the pain. Sorry it hurts.

just leave it alone, it takes time to heal itself. and if it starts to hurt I would not recommend drilling a hole for it you can cause more infection or damage a nerve. What you do for first is take a warm rag and wrap it and hold your arm up for 10-15 minutes. it will release the blood flow to that finger. and to add on try to keep your finger vertical to limit blood flow. good luck I hope ya feel better

ice is good. take some advil and get it xrayed. tape it to the finger next to it for support.

My daughter did that and the doctor cut a small hole in the nail to let the blood out. That way you don't lose the nail. You only need to buddy tape it to another finger if it's broken. See your doctor.
