Finger nails not strong at sides?!

Question: I'm a man who cares about his hands! I must admit bit my nails occasionally, but usually use nail cutters. During the last year i have noticed that the part of the nail (the side) where it joins the finger is weak, it seems to be splitting/cracking. what can i do to stop it? i'm afraid i've damaged it too much and it cant go back to normal.

Unfortunately genetics is the reason your nails split at the sides. The only way to prevent it is to watch out how you pick things up. You may want to consider using nail hardener products like Sally Hansen. Keep your nails no longer than a few mms from the epinycium( the tip). Hopefully this will help. Ive had this problem for years and it sucks because Im a girl so my thumb nails always splits. Hope this helps a little!
