What is the reason for the pain?
I have pain in my knees because I was a long distance runner, I started taking glucosamine and it worked for me. But your thing sounds very serious, you should talk to your Doc.
Sounds like the doc is trying to steer you away from the death grip of morphine. Good Luck! Xanax is a mood alternating drug. It could make you tolerate pain in a more physically friendly manner. One year on the hard stuff is too long for knee pain. Knee's can be fixed. Get a new Doctor to fix you rather than drug you!
