Tonsillectomy!?!
Question: Oh man, I am having a tonsillectomy on Wednesday and I am so nervous! I'm 22 and my doc. said that it is going to hurt like hell. Has that been anyone else's experience?? I'm so scared!

Is it your first surgery? Yes it will hurt, but the doctors know what they are doing and they wouldn't be doing the surgery if they didn't think you really needed it. I would just try to think of the benefits instead of the more immediate fears. Good Luck! I'm sure you will be fine hun! =]

Your Dr is right it will probally hurt but that is what pain med's are for and I suffer from chronic sore throats so things like gargling with warm salt water and sipping on cool drinks and sucking on pop sickles will help.
I had this surgery last summer at the age of 40 due to extremely enlarged tonsils and repeated strep infections. Ouch, ouch, ouch! I had pain for three weeks and was unable to eat anything other than chicken broth and other liquids for almost three weeks. I lost 12 pounds. I had Vicodin for the pain, but it hardly touched it. I switched to Percocet, and that helped more. Avoid carbonated beverages. They really hurt! I'm glad I did it, though. So far, no strep infections, and my husband says I don't snore anymore!
i had mine out when i was 22, and the older you are, the worse it is. kids seem to cope just fine though. my throat felt like it was on fire, and it bled, and i was sick. took about 3 weeks to come right. good luck.
