8 hours of sleep is the amount you must have. The REM's in your brain require that much time to repair and rejuvenate. The body needs rest along with your heart, your organs and veins in your body. As you sleep, your body will slow down into the sleeping mode. After 8 hours, your body and mind will be more refreshed and at its top peak. Sleep is also the foutain of youth too. Skin ages when you don't have enough sleep.
If you are a teenager, then you most definatly need your sleep as you are still developing and a good night sleep will also help you study and pass those tests.
To help you sleep, try a fan, a radio, a sound machine with gentle sound of rain, the beach, or other choices. Lavender spray is a fragrance that induces sleep. Night time Cherry Ny-Quil cold medicine also puts you in a sleeping mode. Try a new fluffy pillow too.

but each person differs, you could need alittle more, you may be trying to fit to much into your day and by the time you get it all done with home work, chores, computer time etc there's just not enough sleep time
you might have to step back and look at your schedule and see what can be cut back in order to give you a earlier bed time
