Swollen Knees....??!

Question: Ok, so I play indoor soccer, and recently my knees have started hurting really bad, like a really really sharp pain, but this pain comes and goes (its kinda swollen and purple, but not too much). I have no clue whats happening, and I just started noticing it, it doesn't ever happen when I play out door... what should I do. Also i can't really go to the doctor right now, since my dad is getting a new job and we're not insured (the new one will kick in in March).

Take advil, wrap in an ACE bandage and keep off them for 2 days. If you work or go to school bandage them up and take advil before you go to school and after if you work take them at your leisure make sure if you go to school you get a note from your parents to excuse you from physical activity. If pain worsens to extreme seek medical attention immediately. If it hurts for more than a week go to a doctor and let em' examine it

soak it in ice cold water the swelling will decrease and put bangay on it if it hurts

Its from too much stress on your knees. What happens is that after alot of activity on someones joints, in your case knees, your body's natural fluids build up in them. It is more prone to some then others and takes a little while to go away. The good thing is that it isnt too serious.

The ligaments that surround your knee may be loose. This will cause your kneecap to shift in small, but very painful ways. The only way to properly diagnose the pain though is to see a doctor. However, if you'd like, you could opt for an alternative such as a massage therapist. One that administers a clinical/medical massage (or even more specific, one that deals with orthopedics).

You can most likely find them working out of Chiropractics, seeing as some chiropractors will refer their patients to MT's and vice versa. Very few MT's accept insurance, so this could be a short-term solution for you. However, this is only a suggestion. I don't know how serious your injuries are and if not taken care of right away, they could worsen.

As far as pain goes, always remember for swelling and inflammation-R.I.C.E.!

REST- You shouldn't continue playing if your knees are swollen.

ICE- Never put heat on something swollen. It only makes it worse.

COMPRESSION- Make sure that ice is on there! Ice will also help with pain.

ELEVATION- Whenever you do rest try to put your legs up. This will help with circulation that you need considering blood vessels have been obstructed.
