Migraines!?!

Question: Im 20 years old and get migraines. Some times I end up in the ER for passing out and extream pain!
My doctor gave me imatracks and to tell the truth it doesn't do anything but make me want to throw up more.

What else can I ask my doctor about because these migraines are getting old fast! I get 2 or 3 a month or go 4 months with out.

Imitrex was a total bust for me too. I now take Relpax and it is great. Two of my three daughters take daily meds to try and lessen the frequency of their attacks. When one brakes through they take Relpax. Daily meds such as Topamax, Amitrityline ( an anti-anxiety med ) and beta blockers, are helpful. You should, however, see a neurologist before any of these treatments are decided upon. Tests should be performed such as CT scans to rule out any thing else and to determine the best line of defense for you.

Phenergan, a prescription anti-nausea medication, helps all the side effects of migraine.
Demerol in hospital for pain - injection of demerol + phenergan

I would start by getting in to see a headache specialist or a neurologist. Alot of major medical centers do have headache clinics. There are alot of different meds and therapies available. Go get some specialized help and don't rely on us so called know it alls on yahoo answers!!LOL

my dad gets migraines and he takes Zomig right when he knows they are starting. He thinks they help.

just tell your doc you don't like the meds and try something else. there are others to try. keep trying til you find one you like. are you seeing a neuro? maybe they could be more help. and have you looked into botox? i've never tried it so i don't know how well it works but...who knows...maybe.

ask about topamax. it's a preventative medicine. they put me on it for my migraines because they were so severe and within a week, i stopped having them. we're talking going from 3 or 4 a week to 1 or 2 every 6 months!!! it was amazing!!!

good luck. and i feel your pain!

Imitrex injections work far better than the tablets, for one that already started. Some people have sucess with Midrin for preventing them from ever happening.

Find a sypathetic Dr, and you'll have better luck getting a standing prescription for a real pain killer.

Phenergan will zap nausea, but in combination with opiate pain killers it can make you VERY drowsy. I reccomend Zofran for nausea if your insurance is paying (It's expensive.)
