Healthcare field?!


Question: I have a few questions......
1. Do certified nursing assistant's have to work in a nursing home, if no where all can they work.
2. Where can you work on 1st shift, day hours? What is the pay starting out as a cna in SC?
3. I am thinking about a PCT but not sure of what they do and what other classes i would need for it?
4. I finish a CNA class in one week and want to know where i can work then?

1. No, CNAs don't have to work in Nursing Homes (although for those that take the CNA training thru a Nursing Home they would for about 6 months or so after the course is done-found this out thru some of the ads I've seen in my area). Some CNAs work in the hospitals.

2. CNAs if they work in the hospital can work on the floors like General Medicine such as Family Medicine (an example) and help with giving baths and such as vitals as well depending on the set up of the floor.

3. A PCT (Patient Care Technician) is a person that is one step above a Medical Asssistant but below an RN. A PCT is someone who gets blood samples if allowed, takes vitals and check to see if the patient needs other things like blankets.

For the PCT class they would offer classes like in learning how to draw blood, do EKGs as a couple of examples. They may also learn how to give injections (just using this as an example).
