What the hell happened?!

Question: back in 2005 one day i was getting out of bed and my knee made a snapping noise it was followed by the most hellacious pain i ever felt in my life, after rubbing and keeping the knee still it went away,it happened again in 2006 but that time i went to the doctor they were about to do an Xray when all of a sudden i heard another snap and my knee was fine,

yesterday i was just getting out of bed when it snapped again i went to the doctor again he said i have a meniscus tear and i have to wear an immobilizer and use crutches,

so im sitting here now wearing an immobilizer and i won't be in school for a while,

the doctor said all i need is to keep the brace on and no surgery is required,

was he right? why do these kinds of tears happen?

It sounds as if you have what is called Chondromalacia Patellar, more commonly known as a 'trick knee'. In layman's terms it is when the patella slips in and out of place. Your knee is unstable. The good news is, is that it is not to serious. The best treatment for it is immobilizing it, ice and Motrin for the swelling and pain. Long term treatment is physical therapy to strengthen the knee. A vast majority of people who suffer from this (myself included) learn the do's and don'ts. E.g. jumping, climbing stairs even standing. Just remaining conscious of what you are doing and being careful. The worst case scenarios the patient will seek surgery which consists of having a doctor "scope" it. Which involves a scope looking into the knee after a small incision is made, at which time the doctor will smooth out the bone thus causing less episodes. I had this procedure over 20 years ago. I still have an occasional symptom such as clicking noises when climbing steps and once in a long while it will buckle. With all of this said you still need to remain under an orthopedic MD care, maybe even consider a sports medicine doctor. Good luck. hmm that is oober weird!! never heard of that but all i can say is he is a docter so trust him and if it doesnt work they will try something else.

they do.
i've done it three times... two of which required surgery.
they happen with everyday wear and tear but are more common if you're more active.
mine happened in gymnastics and wakeboarding.
if you're physically active, you're more likely to tear it, or something else.
make sure you take it easy for a while... the longer you wait, the better.
best of luck to you!

well something happened to me like that I was walking and my knee just collapsed I think it happens if you hit hard or twist it cause bout 2 months ago ise ridding my my dirtbike and I ran into a tree my knee hit my handle bars at like 25 milesin hour it sliced the cartlige in my knee. It hurts like **** all the time but when I touch it my knee like spazs out so its pretty cool
