I guess I bit my tongue in my sleep...?!

Question: I woke up a couple days ago with a huge lump on the back left side of my tongue like I had bitten it really hard in my sleep or something. Now there is a huge blister looking thing where it hurts and its constantly rubbing up against my teeth and it hurts to talk or eat or even just to sit still because its pushing up against my teeth constantly. And every time I talk or chew or anything, it just irritates it more or I wind up biting or scraping my teeth against it again! It's been a couple days now and it seems like its only getting worse. Is there anything I can do to make the swelling go down or to keep from irritating it? Any suggestions would be appreciated, I just don't have any ideas of what to do, it seems like everything just makes it hurt more.

You were probably having a dream and clenched your teeth which made you bite your tongue, that's what causes the swelling and pain. Try using oragel or something to numb it so you can talk and eat without the pain. Then maybe try sucking on ice cubes or popsicles to decrease the swelling. I hope this helps and that you feel better!

i have never heard that you can bite your tongue in your sleep, you should definitely go see a doctor immediately don't hesitate, it could be an infection and get even worse, go call a doctor now.

I recall seeing a device that was inserted between upper and lower teeth before going to bed that physically prevented that from happening. The department that issued prescriptions for it was the "sleep disorders" clinic. Start there.

wow, it got biger?
go see a doctor......
this probably isnt what happened 2 u but......
well one day someone woke up with a lump on their tounge but over a few weeks, it got bigger and bigger. eventually it hurt so bad that the doctor cut it open.....
it was fulll of cockroaches. this is very unlikely so dont freak out (unless you have an addiction to licking random stuff) but you should definately go to the doctor
