In having cancer which I've never had before, I would appreciate them telling me what steps I need to take next instead of leaving it up to me or forcing me to call them to ask what I do next. I had a Dr. appointment just the other day for bloodwork and hopefully getting this port taken out. I left not knowing if I should make an appointment or what. Now, I have to call and find out. This doesn't make me happy because Lord knows they aren't going to call me.
my son is autistic and he has some health care providers. i can tell you from the view of a parent what would be better patient care because i have had some really bad ones....
1. never lie about anything. if you do they will never believe anything you say
2. if a guardian has a reasonable request and it is something that your job will allow you to do in your line of work then do it for them
3. NEVER RETALIATE on them if they have legitimate complaints
4. if you can always imagine that you are the person you are caring for. just treat them the way you would want to be treated.
5. everyone you take care of has feelings. never talk down to them.
genuine listening goes a long way
