Rolled on my ankle...swollen hurts to walk on...any ideas for maybe an overnight!

Question: I was running towards the pit for triple jump when someone threw a rock on the runway as a joke but i rolled on my ankle and it popped as i collapsed...it didn't hurt so much after a few minutes but then I had to run another two miles and now it seriously hurts every time I move it...any suggestions for a pretty quick fix?

R.I.C.E.

R- Rest: Resting is important immediately after injury for two reasons. First, rest is vital to protect the injured muscle, tendon, ligament or other tissue from further injury. Second, your body needs to rest so it has the energy it needs to heal itself most effectively.

I - Ice: Use ice bags, cold packs or even a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a thin towel to provide cold to the injured area. Cold can provide short-term pain relief. It also limits swelling by reducing blood flow to the injured area. Keep in mind, though, that you should never leave ice on an injury for more than 15-20 minutes at a time. Longer exposure can damage your skin. The best rule is to apply cold compresses for 15 minutes and then leave them off for at least 20 minutes.

C- Compression: Compression limits swelling, which slows down healing. Some people notice pain relief from compression as well. An easy way to compress the area of the injury is to wrap an ACE bandage over it. If you feel throbbing, or if the wrap just feels too tight, remove the bandage and re-wrap the area so the bandage is a little looser.

E- Elevation: Elevating an injury reduces swelling. It's most effective when the injured area is raised above the level of the heart. For example, if you injure an ankle, try lying on your bed with your foot propped on one or two pillows.

well wear a wrap on it to put pressure on it and reduce pain and get urself to a doctor

Put it up with ice on it overnight, take Advil, and wrap it in an Ace Bandage (you know the stretchy wraps) or get an ankle brace, and when it is wrapped try not to put all your weight on it but you can still walk on it, if you're daring enough you might even run on it ( I have seen runners run with their ankles wrapped)

Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate. Ice goes on for 20 minutes off for 20 minutes back on for 20 minutes and you're done, do this tonight and tomorrow AM if there's time. Running after you rolled it was foolish. If it's still swollen in the morning go see a doctor, it's probably sprained and may need to be immobilized, you may need crutches too.

Cortizone 10% should shave a few days off, that and staying off your foot. Icing it as much as possible, epson salt baths. Thats about all you can do. Good Luck!

Your ankle is likely sprained.

RICE - rest, ice, compression, elevation

Rest for a couple of days as much as possible and keep your ankle raised by propping on a pillow. If you have someone to run to the pharmacy for you, an Ace compression bandage can help.

A popping noise can be a sign of a more serious sprain. If you continue to have pain and trouble walking after a couple days of home treatment, you will need to consult a doctor.

Conservitive treatment- RICE treatment

R-Rest. Dont walk on it.
I- Ice. Apply ice for 15-20 minutes every 2 hours for first 24
hours while awake . Only apply heat after 48 hours after the injury. Applying heat any earlier will increase swelling
C- Compression- apply ace wrap to the sprained ankle. May need to unwrap and rewrap every few hours. May remove during the night
E- Elevation. keep elevated on pillows or whatever as much as possible

If no improvement after 48 hours using these measures, may need to consider seeing a doctor and having an xray.

soak it in warm salt water, ice for the swelling, wrap with ace bandage. Should get check could have a hairline frature, or maybe just bad sprian.

a heat/freeze spray might help,it takes a lot of the swelling out and eases the pain.

i dont think it will heal over night but just ice it and get used to walking on it and drink MILK, its good for your bones!!!!!!

Wrap it and keep it elevated with ice for the swelling. If it doesn't feel better by tomorrow you may need to see a doctor and make sure the extra running didn't really hurt it.
