My Dad has always said, "If you put a hard day's work in, you'll never had a hard time falling asleep". I don't physically work too hard, but I am very busy doing this and that. I think a routine is a good idea. Up at 6 and to bed by 10. Works for me.
I have a nice selection of bedtime stories to listen to.
I listen to the radio because I need to here voices so that I know I'm not alone. If its silence I freak out.
Unfortunately I have had to resort to a prescription sleeping pill, since I have had insomnia off and on for 14 years, but I don't take it every night. I usually sleep better if I have time to wind down before going to bed. I dim the lights and read something that's not too stimulating. Sometimes a cup of hot milk before bed helps too.
What helps me fall asleep (and it sounds stupid too but it does help) is to go through a list in my mind. For instance, I think of girls names beginning with A--(Anna, Abby, Ariel, etc.) and then I move on to another letter such as C (Cindy, Chasity, etc.) and go on through the alphabet. Another example might be to think of foods (tomato, banana, applesauce, beans) and I go on and on. I get bored of it eventually and fall asleep.
I think about sex, hahahaa.
Vicks works wonders....
rub it under your eyes, put you right to sleep.
