Pulling at stitches-ouch!?!

Question: I just had a potentially cancerous growth removed from the middle of my back and my doctor had to put in 3 stitches. I'm keeping them covered with a band-aid, but it seems no matter what I do, it feels like I'm pulling at my stitches and it hurts! Sitting, standing, bending over-the only way that's less painful is to sit with my back away from the chair and leaning backward slightly. Plus every once in a while I get a sudden stinging sensation, which makes me think I'm pulling the stitches and opening holes. Is there anything else I can do to stop the pulling sensation and pain-I'm getting some major muscle spasms sitting so unnaturally!

Try putting a little antibiotic ointment on the stitches like Neosporin. It will help keep the wound soft and supple and will decrease some of the pain related to movement. Also, even though it isn't continuous pain Tylenol, Motrin or generic equivalent can help too.

id go to see your gp,they will help you out.dont suffer,it will never heal if you are pulling them.

Call your doctor. I had stitches once and I didnt have any of that pain. Are you keeping ointment on them? That will help with the healing process plus it keeps them from drying out. I would call the doctor there might be something wrong with them.

I would go see the doctor, actually their nurse. Some doctors tie stitches way too tight. My scars from laproscopic knee surgery are actually little X's because the stitch holes tore. OUCH!!
See if the nurse can loosen them. Additionally, some ointment on the area can help considerably. Maybe try something larger than a band aid.
