Is there a way to cut this fingernail without it hurting?!

Question: I reached down to get something and jammed my fingernail into a piece of metal. My fingernail bent back so far and so hard that it broke halfway into the nail bed. OUCH!!!!!!! My problem now is that my fingernail is long, and I don't want to put a bandage on it as it is. Every time I touch anything it'll hurt. But I don't know how to cut off the white part of the fingernail without it hurting, or ripping it off the rest of the way. Any suggestions?

hmm, the only thing i can think of is doing it VERY carefully with a NEW fingernail clipper. Dont take it all off at once, just a little until it starts to hurt, then stop.

Just cut the nail as short as you can without it hurting then bandage it up with a couple band aids and then wait a day or two,the pain will go away and you can then deal with it.

soak your hand in warm water for a while until you nail becomes soft and bendyit will be easier to cut then,

The very best way to deal with this is to have a doctor help you out. If you aren't willing to do that, then, get some numbing rub, .like for baby teeth. rub it in real well. AFTER you do the soak as mentioned. Get someone to help you, so you don't have to look. New clippers for sure. Cut in little bits, not a big huge chip. Start small and work your way to where the nail is still attached. Be very careful, you don't want to do permanent injury to your nail bed. Then, after you have cut it down to the nail bed....not to far down, wrap it and leave it alone.
See a doctor if you notice any redness or swelling or if the pain becomes more than you can manage.

Ouch!

The other suggestions are all good. I also suggest wrapping a bandage tightly around the broken part (but not covering the white) before you cut the nail. That will help the broken part not tear farther as you are cutting. Also maybe take some ibuprofen ahead of time. And possibly nail scissors instead of a nail clipper? Not sure about that last bit...

Good luck! Have someone make you some nice soup or something and pet you afterwards. Or chocolate?
