How long does it take for an enema to work?!

You don't mention whether this is a large cleansing enema or a small fleet bottle type. In the former case, I would take it two hours prior to arriving. In the latter case, I would take it an hour and a half prior to arriving. I don't think their protocol took your drive into account.
In answer to the question "How long does it take an enema to work", if you take a two quart enema, it's hard to be sure you're finished getting it out before an hour has passed. In the case of a little fleet bottle, it should finish its work within a half an hour. But when you're going to be stuck in a car for half an hour, a little extra margin of safety can't hurt, unless you happen to be driving while sitting on a bedpan.
In any case, resist any urge to eat spicy or gas-producing foods during the 24 hours leading up to this momentous event. Cream of Wheat? OK. Nachos Grande with extra jalapenos? Take a pass!
do the enema about an hour and 15 minutes ahead of time. If it is a fleet enema you will fell the urge to get rid of it immediately. Try to hold it in as long as you can. That way it will work better to get rid of more waste.
Wow don't do it dude!!! They tried to give me one in the hospital and when they told me what it was I freaked out and refused. There are just some things that should not be done to a person and this is one of them. They work fairly quick so I am thinking you are gonna have a ruff ride with many stops. Sorry!
Fleet enemas work quick and generally you only have to go once or twice afterward. Do it an hour before your scheduled arrival time and you should be fine.
