Why do I still have pain in my chest from when I fell onto a whirlpool faucet we!

Question: I accidently fell full force onto the faucet of my whirlpool tub over a month ago. The middle of my chest (sternum area) received the biggest trauma. It hurt quite a bit for the 1st few days.....but now it's really concerning me because when I sneeze, cough, and especially at night while I'm asleep I wake up from pain when I roll over. I don't wanna have to go to the dr. because I just feel he will say you just bruised certain areas & it will just take time to heal.
But I'm still concerned because I feel it should've healed by now.
Has anyone had a similar trauma?
Does anyone know what my pain could possibly be?
Could it be serious?
Should I wait even longer to see if the pain finally subsides?

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this :o)

Quit being so brave and get the Xray! What if you broke the rib bone? A sharp edge could cut your lung open and that bruise wont look so bad to you then!

Please go to the doctor! It's very possible you cracked your sternum, or maybe even a rib or two. Yes, there will be internal bruising as you said, but there could also be something a lot worse. If there is cracked/broken bone in that area, one wrong move could make a shard of bone puncture your lungs or even your heart, depending on the location of the injury. Please go - worrying about what the doctor will say is not worth having an injury (especially a chest injury!) worsen and/or heal wrong.
