Is there supposed to be a tingling sensation after getting a lip piercing?!

Question: I haven't had the piercing for long, but upon losing the ball to the original bar pierced with, i put in my own. i am now experiencing a tingling sensation on that particular side of my lip. Is this a normal side effect? or was this caused by putting in my own bar? I know nothing about the healing process of a lip, other than the bruising on the inside and swelling. Advice is appreciated :]

Most likely the tingling is part of the natural healing process. But was the metal the same in your replacement bar/ball? Metal allergies are not uncommon and could start as a tingling sensation before a rash erupted. In general, piercings can be considered puncture wounds. There is increase chance of infections, especially around the mouth (which is a veritable bacteria soup). Additionally, the chronic irritation of metal in a mouth can lead to tooth destruction and potentially oral cancers (unproven). Be careful with any piercing.

Yes, you're puncturing through nerves. Come on.

It's probably nerve damage. You shouldn't punch holes in your body. Your body doesn't like it and it's telling you.
