I quit smoking 10 days ago and?!

Question: I still don't feel any of these "great effects" that are supposed to come with quitting smoking. In fact I still want to light one up every day. I would rather go back to smoking than to live with constant cravings every day. I hear drug users who have quit say they still want to do drugs every day the rest of their lives. Will it get better or will I have to live like this the rest of my life, always wanting a cigarette?

Please hang in there. You will start to feel those good effects in a few weeks. You've probably been destroying your taste buds for quite a while. Give them a chance to recover. The physical addiction to tobacco will ease as the weeks pass. The psychological addiction will prpbably stay with you for several years. I quit 4 years ago and I think I'm finally over the hump. Try to find yourself a healthier tranquilizer (that's what I think cigarettes really are) like meditation, exercise or even gum.
Your lungs and heart thank you. The real payoff is that you just increased your life expectancy by years. Hang in there!

It'll get easier.
Hang in there.
Good for you for quiting. Very bold move.

its great you stopped smoking and shes right it gets easier just be patient and you'll never touch one again

Its early days so don't give up on giving up, it will get better, and if after you have given it a good go and still feel the same then your free to start smoking again aren't you? and you can try again to give up. Does not make you a failure. Good Luck

Hey hi-5 4 quitting. Good 4 u.
It is OK that u do not feel any of the effects now. 10 days is not much. Wait 1/2 a year, then ur body will thank u.
It will get much better- trust me. Meanwhile, if u feel like smoking, picture urself looking inside ur own body and seeing black, shriveled, completely deflated things that were once lungs. Ull grose urself out. Then think " if i smoke another cigarette, itll get that way".
DO NOT give in 2 the urge! Itll just make things harder. Be brave.

you'll feel different after a month. if u managed 10 days then stick it out. you'll notice that you have more money in your wallet for a start.

Right now is the hardest part of quitting.
just stick to it.
try chewing gum.
(no i don't mean that crappy nicorette stuff)
i mean like the good smelling trident.
or something.
hey get the teeth whitening kind. you might need it if you were a long time smoker. =)

Congrats, you succeeded where alot of others fail. There aren't any "great effects". You go through withdrawls but there isn't much else. As far as the ritual goes, that's harder to get over than the withdrawls. It will get better. Keeping yourself busy helps. Gum is also helpful, it keeps your mouth busy helping to break to ritual.
