How long did you take pain meds after spinal surgery?!
Question: I had a pretty extensive, nine hour spinal surgery to remove a tumor 2 1/2 months ago. The tumor was actually growing inside one of my vertebra which caused it to collapse. The doctors had to fuse my spine together at t6-t8, but then made a mistake in the screw sizes and had to fix their mistake a few days later, which was about 5 hours of surgery. I am still taking 4-6 or Lortab a day...and I was wondering how much other people needed this long after their surgeries? I am a 22/f.

Of every 100 patient who have spine surgery almost 20 to 25% of the patient end up taking some type of medication for chronic pain for periods in excess of 1 year. This is not as common with young healthy patients, but they are still part of the group.
