If you want to compare it to your lobes yes it does.Had one of mine done a long time ago and ended up taking it out because I couldn't get it to heal and it kept getting infected for no reason even though I cleaned it constantly.I had a whole lot more trouble with it than I even had with my tounge piercing.
Compared to your lobes, yeah. There's an ache the next day usually. My daughter said that it hurt less for her. She has very thin cartilage in her ears, though. She can wad her whole ear into a little ball. Creepy, but funny. For her, she said it was exactly like having the lobes pierced. It is a bit harder to clean if you have hair that goes over your ears. It won't be bad. If you want to do it, I say go for it. If it ends up that you don't like it, you can always let it heal up again.
