How do I know if I have a hairline fracture in my ankle?!

Question: What does a hairline fracture feel like?
About 5 days ago, I slipped and fell during a soccer game. I landed on my ankle and heard it crack when I fell. I couldn't really walk for the first few days. I can walk pretty normally now, however, whenever I turn my ankle or put pressure on it (not including when I stand), it hurts just as much as when I first fell. My ankle is still a little swollen, but it has gone down significantly. I know I should see a doctor, but if I get put on restriction, I won't be able to finish out the season of my senior year. I want to know what symptoms of a hairline fracture are and if my ankle will heal quickly or not so that I can play this coming week. If I do think I have a hairline fracture and it won't get better unless I consult a physician, then i will go to the doctor. I'm in a lot of pain, but I really want to be able to finish my season. I also want to know, if I do have a fracture, will the doctor put my ankle in a cast/sling even if I CAN walk?

If swelling, bruising and pain are marked after an injury, or if the injured part is difficult to move, a fracture should be considered. Fractured bones near joints are often mistaken for a bad sprain.

Well, it COULD be a hairline fracture. They won't cast it for no reason- they will need to have a reason to cast it. If you can walk without pain, you prob. won't need a cast, but idk I am not a dr. so I can't tell you much.

Your health is more important. Get to a doctor ASAP. They'll be many more triumphs in life to come. It's possible it's just a sprain and the doctors can get you good enough for the game! Your worrying about the wrong thing. Playing hurt only makes it worse. You don't want to be telling this story when your old on how you got the limp you may get when you chose to play the game hurt! Now get off the net and go to the doc!!

I have the same injury, hairline fracture in my left foot,,2 broken bones in my right foot which has been plastered,,the left foot is bandaged..Get an x-ray to be sure,,if its only a hairline fracture you shouldn't need plaster..Good luck !

You can ask the doctor for a boot rather than a cast and then playing is up to you. Problem is that with a fracture you will probably make it worse and possibly a permanent injury if you continue to play. If you see a doctor they may be able to recommend therapy and supports for during and after games.
