Haemorrhoids - cant live with them any more! help!?!

Question: I got haemorrhoids from pushing during labour. They are agony, they bleed, pulsate and hang out of my bum.
I used to push them back up, but they wont go up anymore.
They are making my life hell. I've tried all the suggestions by my GP and nothing works!
Im considering surgery - can you get it on the NHS or will I have to pay privately? Has anyone had this surgery!
Really need advise - no jokers!!
Thanks, Sophia

I so understand what you're going through!

Get your GP to refer you to a Colo-Rectal Consultant at the hospital and when you get there tell him exactly how you are feeling!

You can get surgery on the NHS but may have to wait up to six months. When the consultant told me I'd have to wait up to six months I burst into tears and asked about having it done privately. He sent me home with a phone number and told me to ring and book in. I was admitted to my local BUPA Hospital three days later and had surgery. It was actually him that performed the surgery!

I was a BUPA member then so I can't tell you how much it cost, sorry, I just don't know but ring your local private hospital and they may be able to quote you an amount. The hospital I went to was part of the Nuffield Group.

The surgery was life changing!! ...and 5 years on I still have no more problems!!

Go for it!

hi
ive not had the surgery but i believe you can get it done on the nhs, go and talk to your gp about it and ask what the op entails, good luck

i do not know about the insurance part of it but a family member suffered for years got the surgery said it was painful but would definitly get the surgery sooner if it were to occur again

Ask below and get professional advice, Good Luck.

Oh god I feel for you! I got them during my third pregnancy! and still have them! they drive me mad, You have to go private if you want them out and surgery doesn't always work, Ive heard that they can come back!!! Its a horrible circle the Gp tells you to eat more fibre, fruit and veg but makes you poop more and puts those piles! Ive given up. look on the bright side... oh I dont have one. but I do have a great cream from my GP its got wool fat in it, cant remember off the top of my head what its called (cant go upstairs, kids sleep) i also use baby wipes after having a poop, its nicer on my butt x x x

I have them slightly too after pushing in labour. i did see on that Embarrassing Illness programme that you can have them frozen off. If yours and as bad as you describe then I would go back to the doctor and show the doc just how bad they really are. Mine are small but I can imagine how uncomfortable they are.

You can insist that your GP refer you to a specialist, if he/she refuses go to another GP in practice. Make a nuisance of yourself. I had one very large haemorrhoid, my GP sent me to the hospital where they did an injection that shrunk it completely. That was about 20 years ago and I've had no problems since. In the meantime, have you tried putting ice in a thin towel or something and holding it against your piles. That makes them shrink which will make it easier to push them back. If you've not already tried it, do, it really works.
Never put the ice straight on, it could stick. Ouch!
