Because my health is more important than paying for pot holes in the road.

Because then we wouldn't be at the mercy of insurance companies, and we wouldn't also face financial ruin just for getting sick.
I would have certain stipulations though, such as only taxpaying citizens and LEGAL immigrants having access to it.
The cost of private insurance is out of control. But universal health care is not the answer, because then people who can pay will have to pay for EVERYONE to have insurance and I can't afford that. So let's stick with private insurance, plus Medicaid and Medicare. The existing policies ensure that everyone has access to medical coverage regardless of their ability to pay. There are free clinics and hospitals that will provide care regardless of your ability to pay. My tax dollars help support that and I'm fine with it.
