Could it be broke?!

Question: I may have punched something and I may have felt a weird explosion in my hand at the time. Its been a week now. Its the bone that connects to my pinky back to my wrist. It does not hurt at all until I hit the bone on something and WOW, and I can only compare the pain to when my leg was broke and being put into traction, that painfull!! Is it possible I broke something? or just a bad bone bruise? There is no swelling or discoloration but I was told it doesn't matter. I have a hard cast that I have been putting on my hand to help protect from touching it or hitting it. I know this is all the doctor would do anyway but I'm curious. It doesn't feel like a sprain but what do I know!

Sounds rather like you might have broken it - does it affect the mobility of your finger or can you still move it about okay and grip with it ?
Did it myself once - it will heal on it's own if you are careful with it but it's probably better to pay a visit to the ER ( unless it's like ours and has a 5 hour average waiting time - hence I never went when I did mine )

Yes, no way should it be that painful after a week. It could be a fracture- I think you need an x ray.

No disrespect, but I kinda want to scold you... a week is long time to wait. Are you one of those people who sees the bone protruding from their broken leg, and is all "Hold it straight and tie a stick on it- It be alright!". Seriously, if your horse or dog were having that kind of pain, wouldn't you have called the vet already?

Sounds a lot like a fracture of the fifth metacarpal bone (known as a boxer's fracture). You would be wise to seek medical attention ASAP to have an x-ray taken and if it is broke to make sure its in the right position to heal properly.
