When studying for long periods of time I get upper back and neck pain?!

Question: I can't get a new chair or desk. I have to work with what I've got. I think it's a posture thing but I have to lean over slightly to read and write and hi-light things etc. Are there any stretches, better ways of sitting, hell anything that will help? It's very off-putting when I'm trying to cram biochemistry!

Thanks

if you are studying biochem, then you know what is happening to your musculature when you sit for hours on end. Set an alarm clock, every two hours, get up, move around do some deep breathing. Not only will this give your neck and muscles a break, it will clear your mind and make studying easier.

Ultimately an ergonomic chair will make a helluva difference, the only problem is that they don't come cheap for a good one. My other suggestion is to go to one of the back-pain websites for some really knowledgeable answers to your problem. Just type in Back pain in the search box. The UK does have a national back pain org so look out for it amongst your results.

I work in an office so i'm looking down at papers and typing, etc for 8 hours a day... I constantly have upper back and neck pain. I get a massage every so often - that helps SO much. And I also take Excedrin tension headache - it works really well. Better than just plain ibuprofen, etc. Also..you know those bean bag looking things that you can either freeze or microwave? I have about 5 of them.. those work great too, either cold or hot - whichever you like.

Next time you study dont lean over keep your back and neck on the back of the chair and it wont get still beacuse it wont be bent over for a long peroid of time
