If I have IBS would nausea be a symptom? My DR thinks I could have it, so I look!

Question: I have the other symptoms but I also get nausea almost everyday. Could that be a symptom also?

If you have IBS, the answer is yes, nausea can be a side effect / symptom. When a person is having trouble with a bowel movement - or constipation as a result of IBS- food continues to be digested and broken down in the stomach. Then it's passed to the intestines where it stays until the IBS flare up is over. In the meantime, all of the waste is just lying around in your gut. Waste contains toxins that the body gets rid of during a BM. Therefore the toxins in your waste has no place to go. So, the longer we hold onto it, the sicker we become. The best advice I got was to eat a stool softener or two every other day. Not only does it make going to the bathroom easier, but it will also help regulate bowel movements.

It sure can. It usually does but not for the reason that's listed above, with all due respect. IBS is caused because of stress or an underlying anxiety disorder, the nausea is a symptom if the stress and/or anxiety.
Sincerely,
Doc
