Ingrown toe nail? ( Gross, I know! )?!

Question: I noticed a few months ago that I have an ingrowing toe nail on my right foot - the big toe.

Anyway, my friend said not to worry about it because it isn't causing me any pain.
But it does! I cut my nails right down then use the nail plier things to pull the ingrown bit out, but then it goes back into my toe again.

What should I do?

I don't want to go doctors, its too embarrassing!

Just go to the doctor, and don't feel embarrass!
Doctors are used to see things that are much worse then a ingrown toe nail and the doctor have the best ways of fixing the problem for you if you cant fix it yourself.
And remember that doctors became doctors cause they like to help people so they don't think its GROSS if a patient seeks help for what ever it may be.

all the time you cut it rite back it will grow into the flesh
best go to the doc and get him to cut it out
it can be sore but only for a few days ,better than constant pain from the nail cutting into your flesh

Try the vets if you don't want to go to the Doctors.

Well if you wont go to the doctors you deserve all the pain you get.

You need surgery on it to stop that part of the nail growing. Trust me i rather have surgery than walking aroun with in grown toe nails, they hurt especially when you stub your toe.

sweetie, I smashed both of my toes years ago, suffered with ingrowns for years. a podiatrist can fix this in his office. you will never have a problem again, as many as they see they are not , so why should you be. best thing I ever did. they put an acid on the quick, but only in the corner

You need to go and see the doctor as if you dont and it gets worse then you could end up having to have an operation.

hi
i cant believe you would be embaressed going the dr's over a ingrowing toe nail really, you need to go because it will only get worse and could get infected, they might refer you to a chiropodist for treatment.

go to the doctor! I know how embarrasing, I had the same thing, it turned out that because of the ingrown toenail I ACTUALLY HAD AN INFECTION That was causing a lot of the pain!!

If you can pull the skin back and see the corner of the nail, then it's not ingrown. If you pull it out occasionally, so it doesn't grow into the skin, you'll be fine.

I had a really bad ingrown toenail when I was in jr. high school. It got infected and it bled a lot. Now -that- was gross! I went to a doctor, and after numbing it with novocaine he took a pliers and pulled off the whole toenail! I wasn't expecting that. It wasn't painful but it really sort of scared me, it made me almost throw up! I'm just telling you this because this is what happens when you're too embarrassed to go to the doctor so you let things get worse and worse. If I'd gone earlier it wouldn't have been nearly as much trouble.

I was reading a magazine and there was an article for guys with ingrown toenails. The article said that you could put a piece of floss under the part of the ingrown toenail and trim it so it won't be too long or too short, the toenail will grow over the floss and not into the skin and after your toenail is grown out, pull the floss out and trim your toenail (not too much!). Not sure if it works, but if you're not willing to go to the doctor's, you might be willing to try it.

Anyways, if you did go to the doctor's, less people will know about it. I mean look how many answers you received, that's how many people that now knows you have an ingrown toenail.

Go and see a podiatrist, you may need nail surgery to remove the bit of offending nail.
