Child hit head... siezure or concussion???!

Question: a child at my daycare hit her head on the floor very hard. she cried for a brief second. we picked her up , she went rigid, stopped breathing and her eyes rolled back in her head... she stayed in this state for about 25 seconds. Her mom took her to the ER they said they ran tests and found no need to do a CT. I have worked with children for yrs. i can't count the injuries tho none have ever had that reaction to a head wound. To me, it looked like some sort of seizure. I'm scared the ER misdiagnosed her and released her too soon. Any input would be great. The ER gave no answer as to why she did what she did after she hit her head and sent her home........

Yes, a seizure and the mother should never have accepted the diagnoses, or lack there of from this ER. That child should be monitored closely tonight. She may very well have a concussion and may have another seizure during the night. If you can contact your boss who may be able to contact them they should be told to go to another ER. This child should have been in an ambulance and not the mother's car as well. Observation by medics prior to the arrival at the ER may have been very informative.

that is definitely not a seizure. there are 3 types of seizures and those don't fit any of the symptoms for any of them. but if she got a concussion, she should take it easy for a while because it can be very dangerous if she hits again

i think its concussion. Her body might just reacted to the impact of the hit. As far as I know, seizures dont last for 25 seconds only but again...that is a "as far as I know" only. The ER should have re-examined her again. Please ask the childs mom to have it double-checked to be sure.

I'm not exactly sure but I can tell you about a seizure from family experiances--
All of her muscles would have tensed up--she would have probably be bleeding out of her mouth from bitting her tounge--and she would have been VERY limp--
Good luck dianosing--

They probably let her go because she was totally unremarkable on exam.

Sounds clinically like seizure, get the child to the pediatrician tomorrow or Monday so you can ask about an urgent neurology outpatient consultation. She may benefit from telemetry and an MRI, but that may be close to impossible to achieve on a forever-in-motion toddler. You could maybe scan & pick up sizure activity when she is sleeping.

If anything should happen to her now it would be down to the hospital. If she was my child i wouldn't be satisfied with that diagnosis, i'd want a proper explanation.
