Question: A while back I dropped a piece of lumber on my big toe. It has been 4 months now and the bruise is still there. It does not hurt at all though. The color is a dark purple and has not faded very much since the injury. What should I do?

those sorts of bruises can last years, there isn't anything the doc will do about it, unless it becomes painful or shows signs of infection.
There may be blood under the toenail. My son had to have a hole drilled in his toenail to let the blood out. I would see a doctor to have it checked.
If there is no pain or swelling do not worry. The discoloration is from blood vessel rupture when the injury occured, it's just old blood stuck under there. It will go away as the nail grows out which can take 6 months to a year depending on your age and general health. Idropped a stock pallet on my toe in November, it has only grown out about half an inch so far.
You can only release the blood collecting if you put a hole in the nail within an hour. You do not need to see your doctor. The dark purple colour is just dried blood and will grow out with the nail which will obviously take a while.
