How much doe it cost to have your tonsil's removed? I got tonsillitis...?!

Question: I get it once every year and I don't have any insurance, I hate exposing my love ones to it....today is day 4 and is very difficult to swallow my own saliva, is very painful...is there anything I can do so it will go away...I use to take medicines before but now I'm a nursing mother to a 6 month old and I can't be taking just anything like I use to....Any suggestions?

It should be around $2,000 to $5000. It all depends on the doctors fee the cost of the facility where you have the procedure done. A tonsillectomy will require anesthesia and depending on the doctor it can take 15 to 30 minutes. Have you seen a ENT specialist a tonsillectomy might not be recommended since you only seem to get it once a year.

Check with your doctor because there are medications that a nursing mother can use. Once upon a time, it was standard practise to take out tonsils when kids were around five or six. But that is no longer the case as doctors have come to realize that the tonsils are actually an important part of the immune system. However, if, as in your case, the infection repeats and repeats, your tonsils become a well of infective material and whenever you get run down, it flares up in a case of tonsillitis.
Today, tonsils can be removed in the doctors office - they seldom put anyone in the hospital for this anymmore. It isn't an expensive procedure and in your case, it might be a very good idea.
