How bad should a broken toe hurt??!

Question: I broke my toe Wednesday night. I did go to the Dr. I did not know it could hurt to where I can not walk. My foot is ice cold and two of my toes are numb. I broke the middle toe on my left foot. But when I went to the Dr. he was worried about the foot being so cold and it being numb but he just told me to keep an eye on it.

how did you break just your middle toe?

anyway....I've broken a lot of my toes, and it does hurt, and it will hurt for a couple of months, but be good, just keep an eye on it and don't drop anything heavy on it(duh) and don't aggravate it by running(also duh). It's nothing real major, it just heals crookedly(or at least for me, none of my toes are straight anymore except the smallest on my right foot

Your doctor is right and they can be extremely painful.

when a Dr. says that, it usually means that if it isn't better in a few days, call him. it is not normal for the feet to be cold because of a broken toes. I've had 3 broken toes, at different times and never had your symptoms.

Melinda,
Those broken toes can be very, very painful. There's not much they can do for a broken toe, except leave it. I did one about 8 years ago, and it still gives me trouble occasionally.
Hope yours settles down quickly.

Your toe will hurt every time you move your foot. If you want some relief, take some sports or bandage tape and gently tape it to the next toe. It prevents movement and promotes healing. Be very careful not to tape it too tight. The circulation in your foot is why your toes are cold, put on a pair of light socks . Because you walk all the time it will heal slower than you would like, either year a shoe or some protection so you don't re-injure the foot and Tylenol for pain with a nice cup of herb tea. Good luck
