Depending on your age, doctors will usually say between 8-10 hours a night. ( Sometimes you could also get too much sleep, and feel groggy all day.) Honestly, that is not very typical or practical. I have many children in my house and there is no way that I have had 8+ hours of sleep in over 10 years! I don't think that 6-8 hours could affect your health in any way shape or form, especially if you are young. If you feel tired during the day, take a nap. Also watch what you eat, sugar and caffeine, for example, could give you quick energy but make you crash later... Congratulations on that sleep though!

At least 8 hours. I don't get 8 hours of sleep anymore. I seem to function on 5-6 hours of sleep. Sometimes the body says I'm going to sleep regardless.

Some of the issue is your age and general health, and the consistency and duration of those sleep hours. I know when I was in college (decades ago), I'd get about the same as you, or even less oftentimes, but, being that age, and as active as I was, I didn't show any long term effects of the abbreviated sleep schedule. I might have nodded off and snored in a few classes (as a matter of fact I got thrown out of a math class for sleeping right in front of the substitute professor, but, . . ., he got over it). As time went on, I'd average closer to 8 hours a night, with some exceptions, but, still, no long term effects. And now, in my mid 50's, and having been exceptionally healthy from all my competitive bicycling and running, I'm retired early and I can sleep as long as I like, which usually runs around 9 and sometimes close to 10 hours a night. Now, I may drop over dead any moment, (NOT), but I bet it won't be due to my sleeping schedules. God Bless you.

i usually get about 7 during the week and 8-9 on the weekends. my key seems to be consistency.
