Hi there, my mums had osteoarthritis for a lot of years and paracetamol has never been the answer for her. She has worked her way through various options to find the one suitable for her (dihydrocodeine - may not have spelt that right), she also uses a rub called Feldene. There really is no hard and fast rule on this one - it's going to take time to find the pain relief that works for you. I wouldn't recommend you waiting to run out of your paracetamol prescription - go back to the doctors and tell them these aren't even touching the pain - you definitely need a much stronger option. Osteo keeps my mum pretty much housebound, and she has had to move to a one storey house so she is at least able to look after herself without too much care from dad. You really need to have a better understanding of your condition, particularly as your pain is associated with your hips and knees, ie how much will your mobility be affected by this in the long run? would your doctor be looking at hip/knee replacements? I'm happy to help you in any way I can - even if it's just to talk to someone who does understand the condition from a 'living with it' perspective as opposed to a medical professional.

My mum - who has arthritis and is 82 - uses Biofreeze and thinks it does a lot of good. See http://www.biofreeze.co.uk/

Well a lot of people who I've met who said they have arthritis said they moved here to Phoenix for the heat, supposedly because of the heat and the amount of sunshine we have year on a yearly average helps them drammatically with the pain. But then osteroarthritis is in the joints, wearing away of carthliage so I would think you'd still be utilizing your knees, which would still cause pain so I'm not sure if the warmth would help it.

I have it...result of a broken elbow in 1985! I take 2 Glucosamine (500mg) Chrondroitin (400mg) per day 1 in the morning, and the other in the afternoon. Along with that (and this is what I think really helps me) I eat 9 gin soaked raisins per day (before I go to bed). See <www.peoplespharmacy.com> click on home remedies. Realize, you soak the (yellow or called golden) raisins until the gin evaporates, so there is no alcohol content!! Before I started doing this, the pain in my sholder would wake me often, now seldom does it wake me! It's not gone, but much better!
Another product that may give you some relief is "Castiva". It is a product with a castor oil base, and comes in a warming, or a cooling formula. You can get it at Walgreens!

Good Luck!

osteoarthritis, Greek word.is throatiest of a Bone, many people have this troubles and nothing you can do other than tack some Madison for the pain
sourly it go to you knees and you joins.go to the doctor and ask for pain killers--sorry

Firstly,it depends on your age.Osteoarthritis normally(if it ever does)sets in in the later years of a normal lifespan, from about 38/40 to about 60 and onward. It may arise from abnormalities in your joints(badly fitting, congenital disorders),or from injuries sustained. It is aggravated by obesity and all those "extra pounds".You have not given your age or weight.Paracetamol is not the answer, and your doctor is not a very good one.Try and be more active,as this actually helps the joints lubricate and strengthen, but do it progressively.Lose as much excess weight(if you have any)as you can,and consider physical therapy.Good luck.

if paracetamol didn't help you, you can use ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Nuprin, Medipren) and buy it from ur nearest drugstore.
osteoarthritis will become worse if u do so many activities or movement.

I took glucosamine (1500) every day fro two years. It did absolutely nothing for my osteo, and I've had both hips replaced and am waiting for a knee job now. I still take paras but also Tramadol which, for most people knocks them into a trance but even THAT and the paras doesn't even make me feel even the slightest bit drowsy, so just keep on at your doc for an operation ! ! !

Having the same problem myself, I did some internet research and came across something interesting... I'm going to try it. Interesting medical study.
