Can you sleep wearing hard contact lenses?!

Question: I do not thinkit would be advisable to sleep in any contact lenses as the lens could be prone to moving whilst you are asleep, your eyes could become dry and itchy leading to the possibility of eye infections.
I was advised by my lens consultant NOT to sleep in the lenses because your eyes do need a rest and the lenses need to be cleaned well in solution to prevent any eye infections occuring.
I do, by the way, use the 30day soft disposable lenses.

Yes. But why not buy the 30 day/night soft lense.? You can do anything with those.

I think its pointless. And I have a friend that takes them out when she sleeps.

yes you can sleep wearing hard lenses, but it is also a big help to take them off. sleeping in them also results in dry eyes, and that means dry contacts which cause them to itch, and if you scratch them they will tear. also you may have an accident where you are sleeping and because the eyes role back in the head when yours eyes are closed, your contacts may be at the top of your eye ball and very hard to get to come down, the irritation given by that problem hurts, and it is a very scary situation. so my advice would be if you sleep in them make sure you do not rub your eyes when you wake up and be very careful. hoped i helped in some way or another

Yes but when you wake up in the morning, your eyelids will be crusted together, your eyes will be dry and vision blurred so you will have to take your lenses out and clean them anyway.

What exactly do you mean by 'hard' contact lenses? When contact lenses were first invented they were 'hard' because they were in fact made out of glass. Next they were using various polymers which, although not made from glass, were NOT to be worn for more than a given amount of time during the day. The reason for this was because your cornea (transparent covering over the pupil and iris, the coloured parts of the eye) needs oxygen to stay healthy. Thus, your cornea needs to 'breathe' and that's why they have, over the years, been inventing better and better lenses (the newer lenses allow WAY more oxygen through to the cornea) that we can wear longer and longer. At night we close our eyes to sleep (obviously) and that, in combination with wearing a lense allows less oxygen to the cornea. My advice for a healthy eye would be to remove ALL lenses, no matter what the manufacture says. My eye doctor gave me this advice and to this day I remove my extended wear, disposable lenses every night... my eyesight is just too important to me to risk in any way.
