im married to a tattoo artist and watch him go through the same thing.he even has back spasms...ibprofen800 helps sometimes and sometimes it doesnt help at all..i rub his back for him almost everyday when he comes home from work..that helps..if it gets really bad on occasion he will take a flexeril there are made for back pain, but they make you loopy..another thing we have recently tried is doan's back pain reliever,it over the counter. a heating pad when your hangin on the couch helps. i dont know if you've heard of that teater hangups, but that surprisingly helped and stretching/back exercises. i wish i could help more i know the back pain sucks! it kills me seeing my husband go through it...i hope you feel better.

I'm not a tattoo artist, but I still have a lot of the tension and headaches you are talking about.

Stretching your neck and back throughout the day is probably the best thing you can do. Try to get on a schedule of stretching for like 10 minutes 3 times a day. It will help significantly. Ice or heat, whichever works better for you, is a good idea. You might want to try one of those thermal patches like Icy/Hot to wear while you are tattooing.

I play alot of rugby an i have had a number of neck injurys and i have found that a heated muscle rub for example deep heat is good. If you cant find that a heated towel with a muscle oil from a chinese hebel shop does the same job.
