Is there anything out there for the common cold?!

Question: I am male so, obviously, having a cold has brought me to my knees :-)

Apart from Whisky, Hot Water and Sugar (Tried it, didn't work, but I felt pretty good) or sticking a piece of seaweed up me bum, is there anything out there that 'Does what it says on the packet'?

Answers that are seen as 'Old Wives Tales' are more than welcome.

You clearly have man-flu, an unpleasant variant of the influenza virus as a result of which you must take to your bed immediately, groan loudly at random intervals, adopt a puppy dog expression, expect the female of the house (who might have a bit of a cold as opposed to any variation of flu through which she must stop whinging and get on with it) to pander to your every whim.

Joking aside, take high dose vitamin c, garlic capsules and echinacea to boost the immune system. Drink plenty of clear fluids (NOT alcohol, you'll just get a hangover on top of your cold), a Lemsip or other similar product and some olbas oil or vicks nasal spray for a blocked nose.

I feel for you, about 2 weeks ago I had a cold that turned into bronchitis.

Your best bet is to rest rest rest and chicken noodle soup.

Good old paracetamol and bed! I must admit that I have hot milk with whisky & honey which knocks me out and more or less guarantees a good nights rest! I did try Day & Night Nurse capsules which worked with a cold a couple of months back but not for my most recent cold!

i have just got over a cold and now i have bronchitis as well. Just take lemsip, have a hot shower, eat & drink plenty and just grin and bear it

There is no cure for the common cold, yet there are medicines that can lessen the symptoms of it.

lemsip max does make you feel normal for a few hours and plenty of sleep you should be right as rain in a few days

Take care

The first person/company to find the cure will be VERY rich.

Just plenty of rest, fluids and paracetamols.

Save your money regarding over the counter remedies as they just don't work, this is what I always do and it's the cheapest.
1 jar of honey, a bottle of pure Lemon juice and a box of Paracetamol.
In a mug put 2 teaspoons of honey and add lemon juice to taste then add hot water and stir well. Drink and take 1 Paracetamol every 4 hours.
The Paracetamol is medication but the other is not so you can have as much as you like. It works well and the cold symptoms are soon relieved.
You can have a cup of hot tea as an alternative with half a cap full of malt whisky, this works too but you have to be careful if you intend to drive.
My first solution is always the best, and it works.

take vitamins. eat a few oranges. buy some garlic. garlic has antibiotic and antiviral properties. if u peel its first layer off (kinda like papery lol) similar to an onion. pull off 2 cloves. take off their white and purple peel. then chop the clove into say 3 little pieces. and swallow them wit squash! do it in the evening so that by the nxt morning you will nolonger smell of garlic lol. best to do it before some supper too so eat sum food afta you'v done it.

ps i advise not to chew the garlic hehe

Ask your father-in-law, he`s been around a long time!

Sorry a col last 7days or a week. You can try over the counter medications for the symptoms. Nyquil etc.
