Weight loss is a problem with most ADD meds, and especially with girls. Please understand, I am not judging you at all. My daughter was on a med in the 7th grade. She had terrible problems focusing and because of weight loss we took her off the med. She asked to be put back on because she could see a difference in her concentration and focus. We didn't, but, her grades suffered and her self esteem also, especially in the 8th grade. She's in the 10th grade now and doing fine.

We did Carnation Instant Breakfast with whole milk, a vitamin, etc. We gave her Ovaltine with every meal, made with whole milk, but she still lost weight. My sister is having the same problem with her daughter. For boys, it doesn't seem to be the same.

And by the way, practitioners are MORE AND MORE hesitant about prescribing. My daughter went to a family practice doctor, was referred to a psychiatrist AND a behavioral specialist LONG BEFORE any meds were prescribed, not to defend our decision, but to assure the uninformed.

Good luck.

KEEP CHILDREN OFF OF THE MEDS! losing weight might solve the problem

all the kids are on behavior meds. going to be a scary place in 5 years

You may not realize it, but you are giving your child a methamphetamine. You were an adolescent once too. How would you react if your parents gave you one pill of speed every morning. Your apetite would be gone too. The side effects of giving her this drug are worse than the symptoms. You need to talk to your daughter because i can almost guarantee you she is not feeling well. I had the same problem but was on a different but similar medication. I have heard about a new non-stimulant ADD medicine, but I am not too sure if that actually works. What has worked for me, and has worked for many other people i know is to find real ways to deal with her problem, and not rely on medication. I have not been taking medication for years, and my ADD is not gone, but is manageable. Hope i could help... drugs are not the answer... especially stimulant drugs..

Well Lisdexamfetamine isn't a methamphetamine but it does include dextroamphetamine which has similar stimulant properties. You should ask a regular doctor about that side effect, and perhaps get multiple opinions on whether or not she has the disorder. Some practitioners are rather quick to diagnose a child with ADHD when there's actually nothing wrong with them at all aside from having closed minded parents.
