Is my toe broken?!

Question: Almost 2 weeks ago, I was on the airplane and either jammed my toe on the aisle or dropped my laptop case on it ( I can't remember). It hurts sometimes when I touch it, but I can't tell if it's the skin that hurts or the bone. It is swollen, but my feet are really skinny, and my baby toe is very small. So I dont know if it is just bruised and there isn't enough blood for it to be purple.. or if i actually broke it.
Problem is I have military insurance (I can only see doctors on base) and I am on vacation visiting my parents and there is no base around here.. so im hopeing it's not broken

I have broken both my big toes twice each and a couple of my other toes on other occasions too (I do a lot of blading!). Don't worry about it, it'll line itself up if it is broken and if it's not you'll have saved yourself a LOT of time and effort.

One way to check (if it's not too sore) is to pull the healthy toe on your other foot up, then pull your bad one up and if it doesn't follow the same line or "crunches", you know it's broken.

Good luck =]

easy way to check: look at the foot where the toe meets the foot. if that is bruised and slightly swollen yes, it is broken. but its fine, just walk normally but as little as possible. it will, or should, heal within about a week or two

Don't worry about going to the DR. unless you are in severe pain and want to request some pain meds. There is nothing you can do for a broken toe. Your DR. will tape it to the toe next to it, and tell you to be carefull. I have broken 4 toes 2 on each foot at different times and in every case they just taped them together and sent me on my way. Sure they might say they need to take an x-ray, but that is just a waste of $ when regardless of the results they are going to tape it to the toe next to it. Good luck

it mite not be but even if it was, there might not be much they can do for you....just make sure you don't re-injure it, and go see a doctor when you get home

I have broken my toe a few times. If it is much more swollen than the other toes, there is a good chance that it is broken. Try to bend all of your toes at the same time. If that toe won't bend at all, you can almost bet that it is indeed broken, but don't waste your time going to see a doctor. At best, they will tape it to the toe next to it, but that's about it. It will heal on it's own in no time.

For a broken toe just tape it to the next toe with either a series of band aids or tape. That will support the toe. Wear gym shoes that are cushioned and roomy in the toe area...you will be fine.
