Work problem?!

Question: Have got a severe back problem (been on and off for about 8yrs),that has got worse since november last yr. Have seen gp as well as dr at hospital and they have advised time off work as alot of lifting involved in job.Hospital also arranging an m.r.i scan for back. Seeing physio at hospital on 18th march but in the mean time have to go to work. Do not get paid if i am off and have used nearly all my holidays to cover recent time off to rest. Cant do another job at place of work and getting really down with it all. Is there anything i can do to be off and get paid. Statutory pay not enough to survive on each week. Have been told by hospital that i may need to leave my job!!!!! Any help with this would be gratefully received. Thanks.

i am in the same boat as you as far as finances are concerned, the government see it as enough to pay for gas electricity and food, that is all we need apparently, we are not allowed to pay our mortgages as i have found out. goto your CAB and see if they have any solutions for you. you need to get time to heal, you are only going to make yourself worse and prolong the problem.

do not quit from your job, you will lose out on benefits, keep handing in sick lines instead. don't tell anyone at your work what the hospital said as you don't want to be forced into resigning.

if you want more info on your entitlements either msg me or goto your local job centre or CAB.

Chelsea!

well no there's nothing you can do to force your employer to pay you.
if your GP thinks you are really that bad you might have to sign on the sick, that would mean leaving your job.
but why don't you try to get a job where your not lifting ??

The only way you can draw any income while off is if you have paid into short or long term disability; and typically these will only pay you a percentage of your wages (I think STD is around 60%). If not, there is little you can do.

Listen to babybunny, she's right on the money!
