Gallstones anyone? What will ease the pain?!?!

Question: I am experiencing discomfort in my upper abdomen, and it goes around to my back... right around the bra stap area... I am not sure if gallstones is the diagnosis, but it will be a day or 2 b4 I can see a doc, so I'm hoping someone can help.

I have found that hydrocodone works (but it makes me dizzy) - - I had a csection on 1/9/08... and I am using leftover pills...

I tried to take aleve tonight hoping I could stop taking the hydro, and it's just not working... with an 8-hour-between-doses recommendation, I'm afraid to take the hydro...

ANY SUGGESTIONS??? Thanks! :)

Stay upright as much as possible, to keep pressure off the liver and gallbladder. You probably do have gallstones- it's a risk in short ladies as a problem caused by the pregnancy sometimes. The hygrocodone would be better at masking the pain than motrin, though. A quick ultrasound will settle the issue, and you can go to the ER if you want. If you have gallstones, they can get you set up for the removal surgery to fix you up. It's not a bad surgery, really- in for the morning, awake about lunchtime, and back home in your own bed at night. The only thing is to line up some help for the newborn- because you really shouldn't be trying to care for the both of you and take the pain killers at the same time. Stay upright, and stick with plain clear liquid for the time being, until it eases off some. Then it no fat foods for you until you get it sorted out. Sorry, hope you get it fixed up quick.

it might be complications after surgery such as hernia. the timing is what concerns me - there are a lot of things that can go wrong after invasive surgery such as a c-section. everyone thinks these are just routine, but it is very serious. if you are in this much pain, maybe you should go to urgent care in the morning or ER tonight. I'll let you be the judge since it is your body and you know your pain tolerence. good luck.

if you cant get to the dr go to hospital

It sounds like you could possibly have gallbladder problems..but always best to get medical advise. I had my gallbladder removed 4 months ago...and the pain does radiate around the back. The only thing that really helped was watching my food and drink intake...low/no fats, no dairy products, no chocolate, no fast foods...no fizzy no alcohol....even pain killers didn't really help...yep, the only thing that really helps is the diet...
