What causes pain on the right side of my lower back?!

Question: I've been having a sharp almost pinching feeling on the right side of my lower back. It's off and on, never constant. I haven't injured it and have not done any strenuous exercise. Anyone have any ideas? I've called my Dr. and have an appointment next Wed. I was just curious to know if any one had anything similar and if you do, what caused it?

I'm not doctor t9betty, but it does sound like a muscle has been strained a little. Sometimes we twist, while doing an unfamiliar movement with our bodies, and aren't aware at the time, of the stretching of the muscle/s. It usually shows up later, after the 'movement' that we've done, so we forget all about it. This might be something so innane to us, that it doesn't warrant any special attention. Carrying many plastic sacks of groceries, so that we can hurry up and get them inside, or picking up a toddler while at a extended angle. Another thing I'd like to bring up, is that you've indicated this pain is in a region near your kidney. Do you drink enough water, daily? I'm talking water, not coffee, or pop, or such. Our bodies require a certain intake of water daily, to keep our fluid level where it should be. Not drinking enough water can lead to fatigue, and isn't good on your kidney's. Coffee, pop, and other drinks of the like, are items that dehydrate you.
Just my 2cent's, I'll bet everything is going to be alright!

It could be many things, only a doctor will know for sure.

The first things that come to mind are a kidney infection or your sciatic nerve. Both cause pain in your lower back on either side. Neither require an injury for the pain.

Hope you feel better soon.

sounds like your sciatic nerve is a bit out of wack very common problem usually cleared up easily good luck

have your kidneys, particularly the right one, checked out by ultrasound please.
good luck.

Just from experience.. I had pain in my lower back, one small area that was a horrible pain that kept me up at night. And it was like a pinching almost knife stabbing pain. It started when I was 18. And continued for 15 years until someone took me seriously and found that I had cysts on my ovaries. I ended up having a hysterectomy because my ovary was then the size of a grapefruit because it was never treated. If everything else comes back OK then I would insist on a ultra sound of your female region.
