I'm Pretty Sure I have TMJ?!

Question: so what are some things that I can do at home to make this go away!! I have had a headache for 10 days, slight dizziness, slight nausea, and jaw pain, and shoulder and neck pain. I went to an accupuncturist for my pain about three weeks ago and he confirmed which I already believed to be TMJ. The accupuncture really helped ALOT (I felt normal for about two weeks) but I need to do something at home to help too. I do not have dental insurance. Do you know any remedies for this? I stay at home with my 2 year old and I have a 13 year old in sports and stuff so I really need to get better so I can take care of my husband and kids!!!

Dentists who treat TMJ only do one thing: they give you a mouth guard. You can buy one to make at home at the drug store, even better a sport's medicine store. I used to get my TMJ treated by a chiropractor, who uses a device called an activator to move the tendon back in place. He also says to ice it down as often as I feel pain. That means sucking on an ice cube and putting an ice pack on the outside. Gentle stretching helps too. As long as you ice it often enough, the tendon will go back in place by itself when they swelling is reduced. I don't grind my teeth, the TMJ is caused by neck tension.

My sister uses a special mouth gaurd for her TMJ. You can get them at an orthodontist or at a drug store. I would guess the ones from the orthodontist work better, they are custom made to fit only your mouth.
