Ice will always help take the swelling down in an injury, even days afterwards. Don't leave the ice on for more than 15 minutes or so, but you can use ice every hour or so if you want. You can also take ibuprofen, naproxen, or other over the counter anti-inflammatories- these help decrease inflammation but help with pain too. The good news is that lips usually heal pretty fast.

that happened to me years ago, yes an ice can help the swelling down but you have to do everyday and too often... :)

Ice, Ice, Baby!! It will help the swelling. Don't sweat the small stuff though. The lips usually heal faster than other parts of the body.

Ice is good. The lips take awhile to heal remember to keep them moist with ointment because you don't want the scab to open up. good luck.

Kissing makes lips feel better. I don't know whether it helps the lips heal, though. But then, if I am being kissed by a pretty girl, I can deal with the lips taking a little longer to heal.

yes it does...ice help further swelling cause it constricts injured blood vessels...try to do that 3x a day 15 mins each. And after 24 hours, try placing warm compress to let the remaining swelling subside.Warm compress improves blood circulation on the area

I split my lower lip and the skin under it through and through and needed to have it stiched up last summer. I was told to keep ice on it for 48 hours. Had a lot of swelling anyway but the doctor thought it was not bad. Take something for the pain and keep ice on it. I was told to just keep it on not the normal 20 on and then off. I even was told to sleep with ice on it, which I found impossible to do.

Good luck.
