Honestly, it's different for every person. I have fibromyalgia too and what works for one person doesn't work for the next. It really is complete trial and error. I've heard of many more people having problems with Lyrica then people that were helped by it. I wish I had a cure, a medication or exercise that would help you, but I just don't. I don't even have anything to help my pain.

I do recommend you check out http://www.fibrotalk.com/. It's a support site for fibromyaliga and chronic fatigue syndrome. There is tons of information on there that may help you. The best feature is the message board. The site has over 2,000 members and the message board is always busy with posts. There are many different sections, which means there is always something interesting for everyone. People there are very supportive and helpful and we consider it our little fibro family. There is also a chat room that many people frequent.

It's a great resource for anything related to fibromyaliga and could help you find medications that work. Once you sign up (it's free!) you can post asking this very question and people will be more then happy to help you and give you some advice. I have been on the site for over a year and love it. The founder of the site has fibromyaliga himself and is very involved in the site. He frequents the board just as much as anyone else and is always available to answer questions.

Hope this helps. Good luck at your appointment!

i'm actually on cymbalta which is a new anti depressant that they're using for FMS and i've been having good results with it! i also take ultram for pain which is pretty good! best wishes

My mother has thatand she says that Yoga helps her alot. .. the other thing she uses for her pain is oxycodoine, Givin to her by a doctor.

Been suffering with it for 20+ years myself. Especially bad in my hands and hips. Exercise in moderation helps me most. I have days when nothing but taking ibuprofen and laying in a bed with a heating pad helps. Ibuprofen helps with inflammation, acetaminophen doesn't. In case someone reading this doesn't already know that.

Narcotics tend not to do a whole lot to help fibromyalgia.

The pain needs to have a mix of meds and non-med treatments:

Med wise:
Tricyclic antidepressents tend to be first line meds to use - they generally have the best response.
SSRIs tend to have good responses as well
Tylenol and ultram tend to help; as does ibuprofen

SSRIs and Tricyclic taken together seem to work the best.

Non med wise -- Low impact exercise like yoga, swimming, walking or biking are demonstrated ways to reduce the pain.

Narcotics target different pain receptors than the ones involved in fibromyalgia. Most of the time any help they provide is because of sedation.

It is really important that you keep moving and exericising -- studies have shown that over time, those patients who do, tend to have better long term control than those patients restrict the amount of movement that they do.

If you type fibromyalgia there are lots of sites offering different sorts of treatment which may help , good luck.
