Ahhh you did the absolutely WORST thing you could have done. Whenever you're outside and your hands are basically frozen you are never supposed to go inside and run them under hot water. A number of things could have happened here. When you're outside and your hands are exposed to extreme cold weather, you're basically introducing your hands to the early stages of frostbite. Whether or not you can actually feel it, it only takes a few minutes to start getting into frostbite stage. When you went inside and ran your hands under hot water you made the blood start circulating faster than its supposed to. That can cause your fingers to swell and be painful as the blood started rushing back through them.
The other thing that may have and probably did happen was you burned yourself. When your blood circulation slows down because your hands are numb, you can't feel just how hot the water actually is. You really have to be careful because you can get some serious second and third degree burns from not being able to feel the extreme heat.
I hope that you feel better and remember next time to either run your hands under lukewarm water or to just let them heat up naturally. :)
