Costochondritis treatments?!

Question: I have costochondritis (inflamation and separation of the cartilage between the ribs), which was caused by a bout of bronchitis, which I am still dealing with. I found out I had this at the ER; I went for really bad chest pain and trouble breathing. They were very rude to me and shooed me out as soon as they could, and didn't even prescribe me cough medicine (only IB profen and a z-pack). No guidence on how to deal.

Right now I have a bandage wrapped around my ribs and a sports bra on, which is tight at the base. It feels a little better-- but I am unsure whether or not this is a good way to deal with this. Is it safe? I figure since the cartilage is separating, it can't hurt it further. Even with OTC cough meds, I'm still coughing some. I know that anti-inflamatories are good too.

Can someone let me know if I'm doing the right thing? Any other suggestions? Nurses, doctors, those who have been through this before?

And when can I work out again?

I suggest you make arrangements to see a dr. privately - one that will not be rude and shoe you out after one second. If you think this could be pulmonary related to breathing and respiration, you cannot ignore this. You must get proper medical attention.
